Title: Repainted Used Equipment
Post by: JordanM on August 23, 2008, 05:39:48 PM
Here it is, some of my used equipment that i bought and re-painted.
I painted the supers gray, the brood boxes bright green, the tops and bottoms dark blue and the mating nucs white in the center and blue bottoms.

The first picture is my swarm box that i pick up and throw in the truck to go collect swarms, it is always ready and assembled.

The second picture is All my brood boxes with tops and some bottoms on the ground.

The third picture is of the bottoms that i painted blue.

The fifth picture is a close-up of a brood box with lid ontop.

The sixth one is of what the hives will look like when i switch them over to my new painted boxes.

The seventh one is the rest of my mating nuc boxes.

The eighth one is of the rest of the tops that i have not painted and if you look behind them, you can see a few brood boxes that i could not salvage.

Yes it was alot of work but i cant stand not having them painted, it was well wroth it.

The main thing that i like about them is the blue and green colors together, they look cool.

I try to purposely have different colors on my hives as well.  Keeps them from drifting.

I like to keep the hives painted and looking like they're cared for, it helps people know that they're not just some abanded hives left in the field so stay away.
My BIL is a painting contractor so i just go in his shop and pick whatever looks good to me

Fortunately I had a good bit of paint left over from when I was remodeling the house.

QuoteReally?

Helps them recognize their hive easier when the hives are in close proximity to each other.

$5.00 oops paint from Home Depot, can't beat it, I'm always on patrol when I go in, can usually find some pretty cool colors also.

I think yours are tasteful.. Very impressed.  I have painted mine with what were supposed to be inspirational messages suggested by the children...My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard... being one.

Main thing with second hand equipment though is making sure you are disease free.  Hope you seriously scorched the boxes inside  8-)until they were smoking before you painted the outside.

Hankdog you could try some of the smaller home town paint stores or anywhere else they have paint. I get mine from a Parker Paint, for $4 a gallon.  Only trouble with oops paint is the lack of selection  :-x Jody

There's only a lack of selection if you need it now!!!  Pick some up here and there when you don't need it, but when you do its there. ;)

I think the tops of the boxes are pretty rotten to, but i will go check maybe i can cut them down.

I used one of those little 4 inch rollers to roll all the paint on.
