Title: Fall feeding in Texas
Post by: johnwm73 on August 25, 2008, 11:50:31 PM
I have two hives and both are doing well. Both are first year hives. They both are 2 deep bodies each. Both have filled the bottom and filled the top except for maybe 1 or 2 frames. Should I feed a sugar syrup mix when it cools down so they can fill out the other 1 to 2 frames? And if so what mixture? 1.5:1 or 2:1?

If you want to feed and still draw comb this time of year go with the 1.5:1.

I would like to have some comb drawn out for next year so I will be ahead when the flow comes around next spring.

Once the fall aster and golden rod kick in they may or maynot take syrup.  My golden rod is already opening.
