Title: How many frames to overwinter

How many medium frames of honey do I need per hive to over winter each hive,,,both hives are very strong!!.

I have been doing 3 mediums in PA.  3 mediums is CLOSE to 2 deeps.  I would be doing not less than 3 and no more than 4 mediums up in Maine.  I think my uncle was doing 2 deeps when he was keeping up there.

I do 3 mediums or 2 deeps in Athol Mass. about 60 to 70 lbs. of honey. I use all 10 frame equiment

I usually do 3 mediums for the winter.

Good question, as I was interested to read the responses.

CapeCod, I assume you are actually talking about medium supers/hive bodies?  Are they 10 frame or 8 frame size?  I use the 10 frame.
