Post by: octagon on September 08, 2008, 01:12:15 PM
this week, it's swarming right now, the same hive swarmed 2 weeks ago,
I have the brood hive, their honey super, i med super 90% full, at least it was 2 weeks ago when they swarmed, I also have another med super on it that they were drawing comb on.
does anyone know why they don't like my place/ thks.

Sounds like they like your place too much, if they're building up so well. This is probably an afterswarm that left with one of the new virgin queens that emerged.

Is the brood nest area full of honey? Consider extracting a few frames of it to give them empty frames of drawn comb to keep using. Sometimes they can't draw comb as fast as they need to fill it.

Swarms this late in the year are going to cause problems; your hive population will be very small and will not have time to build up before winter, especially if the brood area is honey bound.

yes the brood nest is full and there is plenty of sumac and hundreds of acres of golden rod this yr plus all the other flowers up in the woods.even the long black berries are still poping out. I'll go in the hive tomorrow afternoon after things cool down out there.
Then i'll know for sure what's left in there.

You may need to remove some boxes or you will have parasite problems.
