The boys and I were feeding our hives and saw that we had left a meduim super on top of one of the hives. This super had starter strips for the bees to draw out. We saw that the super was almost completely full of honey. we went into the top deep and found many frames full of honey and three or four with brood, honey and pollen. We thought we might get to have a late harvest of the forgotten super, but were disappointed when we got to the lowerr deep. It had many bees on the sides, but the frames were totally empty. I seems I forgot that I had ten frames of HSC in this hive body. The bees did not like it, although there was evidence that they had used at least two of the frames to raise brood. I was glad the medium full of honey was there as this will keep the bees through the winter. I am done with HSC.
Next time you buy a package, put it on nothing but the HSC with nothing else to use. They will hesitate, but once they use it you'll have permanent comb that is well accepted and can't be harmed by wax moths. Never give bees a choice between plastic and drawing their own comb. They will draw their own comb.
