Title: The allergist doesn't get Bees
Post by: reeegs22 on December 05, 2008, 12:32:22 PM
Hey everyone! I had a funny/sad experience at the allergist yesterday and I thought I would share my story with you guys.
My reason for going to the allergist was unrelated to beekeeping it had more to do with my chronic runny nose and sneezing.  So I get there and I fill out all the paper work which included about a million questions and told them all about what triggers my allergies which pretty much amounted to Beer and work and living in the basement.  Then I get to a question that asks "Do any of your hobbies have an effect on your allergies?"  So I answer I am getting bees in the spring and have never been stung and don't know what my reaction will be. Maybe having a prescribed epi-pen would be best until I am sure of no reaction.

I wait my turn for the doctor I go in and he is a little bit of a strange guy. He goes through my paperwork and then gets to the bee part and looks perplexed. He raises his head and says "Why would anyone want to keep bees?"  I then was the one looking perplexed because I could think of about 100 reasons maybe more.  So then the genious doc says " I am serious why would anyone do that?"  I just said honey, clearly he didn't want to here that if bees didn't exist his office wouldn't exist.

Looking back I would have said those 100 things but I just was kind of in shock.  Then he pricked me about 85 times with all sorts of allergens.  The good news I am only allergic to mold and not beer!  :-D

Thats an easy one- Just tell him does he like to eat? does he want to pay four or five times the present cost for an apple? watermelon? Bees are like cheap fertilizer-thay make our food sources more productive.

No woman ever dreams of being swept off of her feet by an allergist!!!!! A man who is not afraid of bees on the other had can probably have his pick of beautiful women!!! My wife first compared beekeeping to bull riding. I just puffed my chest out and agreed!

Sometimes I wonder what cave some individuals emerged from...LOL.  A side note, my doctor (I have the runny nose thing too, mold as well) used to keep bees.  During my yearly exam or office visit we always talk about the bees.  He wants to get started with them again.  I told him I would bring him a nuc next year....

It's not all that hard to figure if you've ever watched an episode of Jaywalking on the Tonight show.  I've seen College Professor's, Doctor's, and Lawyer's appear like idiots when outside their limited area of expertise.  It can be argued to too many people have abandoned general knowledge and horse sense in favor a being an expert within a very limited subject area.

Really, though, I'm guessing that this allergist is a person who lives in a sterile gleaming house, gets all of his food from a restaurant, and for a hobby watches tv or some other indoor activity.

People like that really have no idea what it is to get hands dirty, watch plants grow, be connected with the wonderful Creation.  They have no understanding why we'd want to do that, why we'd keep pets or sleep in a dirty tent on the ground.  Food comes from a clean sterile factory somewhere.

Closed-minded.  They don't deserve our disdain, but rather we should feel sorry for them for all that they are missing.

Western doctors simply know everything...didn't you get that memo?  My opinion?  Dump the allergist and find a naturopath.  Here's a guy I see http://www.godsherbs.com/home.htm.  I did the allergist thing many years ago to find out what was causing skin rashes.  The results?  I was allergic to rubber he said. The only rubber I came into regular contact with was my dive watch band.  Any irritation there?  NO!  It ended up being wheat gluten, which I discovered after doing food rotations recommended by another naturopath.
