Title: Lemongrass Oil for Bait Hives
Post by: justgojumpit on January 08, 2009, 10:20:42 PM
I just bought some lemongrass oil to get ready for the swarm season!

I have never put out bait hives, before, but my plan is to put out a nuc with some frames of drawn, dark comb and some empty frames.  Then add a few drops of lemongrass oil.  How many drops of oil are recommended, and how often does it need to be reapplied?

thanks,

I was told to put a few drops on a cotton ball and place the cotton ball inside the "trap" somewhere. I opened the two traps I had this year and added a few drops to the cotton ball about once a month. I never caught any swarms in the traps but I did see bees go in and out on occasion. So this really is not a success story but may help you in some way.
