I was looking to find out if anyone knows what crow tastes like, because whatever I kill I have to eat and thats about it for whats in season.
Heard it tastes better than owl but not as good as eagle. ;)

:-D
Actually its almost identical to piegon or dove...... Had it many times, very dary meat with a strong (not bad) flavor. slightly larger then dove but not much, they (like owl) are mostly feathers!..... Only downside is the same as mature piegons. some are EXTREMLY tough (older birds) Have fun, crow hunting is always a blast!
I didnt think you were suppose to eat crow, west nile virus!
WNV can be present in any bird. you don't get it by ingesting it. it must go through the mosquito.

Some wild birds are also part of the life cycle of "possum poop" EPM equine protozoal myleoencephalitis disease. It is devastating to most horses. That's why horse people hate possums! (well, besides being ugly & stinky..) J
Josh, if you're really going to go crow hunting, its actually a lot of fun. Use decoys and a crow call, but remember wild crows and city crows aren't the same bird by a long shot. The wild ones are much smarter. Practice around the house with the crow call, you'll be amazed and entertained when the crows come on in and circle you and even land close by.

JP, the closest town is about 8 miles away. I think most of the City crow are to stupid to fly this far.
Ummm, up here in the PNW a crow call is shaking a BK bag!  J
Let us know how you do on those country birds Josh.

A crow is about the same size as a pigeon so I'd dress it out the same. Just pluck away the breast feathers and cut away the breast, heart, and gizzard, there isn't enough meat on the remainder of the bird to be worth eating. Remember it takes Four and Twenty to make a pie. :catchchick: :camp:
The older the bird the tougher it is so only shoot the young ones.
um that was four and twenty blackbirds, and yes they ate blackbird, not crows... you actually take gizzerds from a crow??? hmm tiny little things.....
I remember on Hee Haw one time Grandpa Jones was doing his "hey grandpa what's for supper" skit and it was crow neck and rutabagas. Yum Yum!
I love rutebegas! :-D When the day care kids would ask what's for lunch I'd always say "dog barf & beans, slugbutt muffins & goose poop salad"! Specially when I was making something they really liked! I know...I warped the leaders of tomorrow... J
