Ok guys, what is your favorite outdoor activity? For me I would say backpacking. I love getting to camp in places that you have to work to get to. How about you???
hey buzz. i love backpacking too. however, for myself i think fishing and backpacking go hand in hand. if i had to make a choice of eather, i would say fishing.
Bass Fishing here!
I had to say atving due to that is a part of my day, but I love all of the things on the list becuase when we do one of those things the others are usally right behinde it, bye
I have a friend that has horses, and I've gone riding a few times with her 12 year old daughter. But I've been riding horses since I was about 10, in all sorts of ways - english riding, jumping classes, volunteer work with the Wyoming forest service, rounding up cattle, horse breaking & training, and just pleasure.
But there is one thing I like even better than horse back riding. That's scuba diving! I haven't done that since I was about 18 or 19 though. But I had enough training that if I took 2 more classes, I could have qualified as a scuba trainer. (Not trying to brag, just a talkin'.)

That is sweet, my uncle has a license to dive too, bye :D
Of course I like to fish, hunt and ride the snowmobile but best of all I like to take the camera out and take pictures of all the great cool odd things that the great spirit has placed on earth for those with their eyes open to see.
The digital now makes that even better because the film cost isn't so much a factor on how many pictures you take and many times it doesn't turn out right you can see it and take it again.

Skiing. I use to do this a lot and then i had kids and was absent from the slopes for 11 years. I just went last weekend and it was so good to be back on the slopes. It is amazing to be on the top of a mountain and you are going down the hill on two little boards.
I love any thing that gets me outdoors. :D But My main love is hunting with rifle, bow, pistol or muzzalouder.
Brian
I have to choose?
Almost all of the above LOL :D
Except for these
Backpacking = makes me hot and swetty
Riding ATV's = I don't own an ATV
Snowmobiling = doesn't snow enough here where I live
Riding Horses = don't own a horse
Hiking = same as backpacking
Rving = don't own a RTV
GPS Adventures + if I used one of them would I not get lost in the woods anymore LOL
For me it would have to be -- beekeeping. I can't understand why it isn't even on your list.
We work in the garden, field and greenhouses, which beats working in the confines of the office (which I do too much of). But I also like to lay in the hammock, picnic, sit around a fire and chat with friends, mess with the hives, or just walk through the grass and weeds. And at night, I like pulling out the telescope and sightseeing through the universe. That's a BIG outdoors! The cold, still nights of winter are best for that.

Love to camp and canoe. Sometimes both at the same time. Also enjoy hiking ,some of the shooting sports, and of course cutting and using firewood.
Most of the above, but you left out one of the most important - Gardening! That's what I'd rather be doing anytime.
i love riding my horse, but i love camping with my horse most of all.
I check others, because my favorite outdoor activity is staying indoors.
Sincerely,
Brendhan
Can't remember the list cause I'm making a post, this is what I like to do. It all pertains to warm weather, so snowmobiles and cold stuff are out:
Gardening
Beekeeping, really keen on bee watching
Picnicing
Backpacking (if it is not too far)
Short vacations in our 5th wheel
Canoeing
Biking
Biking on motorcycles
Laying on hammock under shade reading my grandchildren stories
Drinking beer (or wine, or iced tea) around my pool, under the shade of the beech tree
Harvesting vegetables for processing
Videotaping
Camera shots
Listening to the sounds of nature
Identifying birds and insects
Going out for dinner, eating outside in restaurant patios in the summer
Vacuuming my house
That about sums it up. Best of the great day. Cindi
I voted "Other". My favorite outdoor activities are Summer Bluegrass Festivals and Gold Prospecting in the Cascade mountain range.

Fishing and scuba diving. Or absolutely nothing w/ a cocktail or five!
Konasdad. My Father was a SCUBA diving instructor. I remember being a 15 year old teenager and him trying to get me and my friends interested in the underwater stuff. Nope, now I really wish that I had taken him up on it. My loss, I could be eating Ling Cod this very day  Best of a beautiful day, great life, great health. Cindi
Currently, my fav outdoor activity is working on my land. I recently put up new goat fences (hard work but fun when done). Over the fall and winter we cleared out a ton of crap from the forest floor.

We are also clearing a lot of trees since we have a way too many sweet gum. In one small area, there were over 100 established SG in just a 50ftx50ft area. As we clear, we are adding new trees to our land, sourwood, black locust, eastern redbuds etc. Not just for the bees, but to diversify out crop. Lots of new fruit trees going in including a wonderful fruit we came across call che.
I'm also preparing to expand my bee stuff. I know this is my first year and I only have 2 hives, but I am already planning a mass expansion next year to experiment with nucs and my own queens. There is a huge gap within VA for availability of local nucs. I have lost count of the number of times I have come across people wanting nucs in VA. This year, I think I could have sold 50 without even trying if I had them.. With my career now taking up a basic 40 hours, I have so much time available for this project..
Fun outdoor times, and I'm loving it..
Cindi- you would love scuba for all the same reasons you like gradening, beekeeping and just being outside. If you think its fascinating to watch ants or bees or flowers mature, imagine close ups of corals, minute fishes w/ intense colors that can only be seen in natural lighting. I'll post a few picas later tonite to give you a taste of what you can see. My parents got certified in their fifties so do it!
MarkR- plant locusts, youll be awestruck at what bees do w/ these trees. My locusts leafed out this week and blooms are about two weeks away. Cant wait!
I only get one?
Tending my land...soaking up nature...floating in the warm healing waters of Anae'ho'omalu Bay on the Big Island of Hawaii..one of my "home away from homes"...

Konasdad. About the SCUBA diving. My husband has his licence (ticket?), whatever it is called, so does my oldest daughter, hmmm....maybe it is time for this ol' girl to get on it too. I know that it would be fun.
When we were in Fiji in 1997 (yikes that was 10 years ago, can't believe that, time does fly), must be time for another vacation, that was the last one we have gone away for, we went on a 3 day cruise to coral islands. We spend hours upon hours snorkeling in these beautiful clear warm waters. I loved it, it was hard to pull me out of the water, the fish, coral and all the wonders of what I could see from my point of view from the top few inches of the water was something that I could even begin to impart how I felt. It makes me go back to that beautiful place in my mind often. We took a Sony camcorder that we had purchased an underwater container for, we my husband took some really cool underwater pictures. EEEKs. enough said.
Our water is cold up where we live, even in summertime. The ocean is not the nicest place to swim, so the benefit of SCUBA would be for when we take more trips to warmer waters, so I may still entertain the thought of lessons surely, yeah!!! Another little avenue of life I could travel down. BEst of a beautiful day, great health wishes for all. Cindi
