Although it will not last long and there is even some ice still on the pond, the last day was in the high 60's. Bees bring in pollen, and I awoke to the sound of peepers singing their love song today.
My kids love those little guys, all singing along.
Spring is near!
BjornBee, what are peepers? You have left my imagination to wander, and I can think of so many things that peep, elaborate. Spring is the wonderful time of year when new sounds come to our ears, sounds of the birds that we have not heard the entire winter long. I can't wait to hear the peeping of the tree frogs, soon they will come. Jody already has had the sound of the tree frogs peeping, smiling. Have that most wonderfully beautiful and most gorgeous day, life, love this life and all that surround. Cindi
Cindi, it sounds like you may already know what they are... ;)
See here..... http://seagrant.wisc.edu/frogs/peeper.html
BjornBee, well, I was correct, yep, yep, I am awaiting the calling of the frogs.....calling me to head out the back to the little lagoon, where I know I can have some fun to catch the frogs with the kids......and then to let them go....have a most wonderfully beautiful and gorgeous day, lovin' and livin' this great life of ours. Cindi
Ours get louder every day up on the plateau. They haven't found my pond yet but my oh my, when they do it's deafening. I have slate rocks that make little caves that echo..they each stake out a cave then see who can sing the loudest! The koi will "play" with the unwary ones caught though...ick! Hummers will be back in the next week or so, usually around St. Paddy's. :-P J
Aaaaaaa, I can't stand no more. I can't stand no more. The spring has just gotta come!!! We had snow again today, only for about 1/2 hour, but it snowed, freaky junk goin' on here.....I need my froggie peeps, I love them so much, and yes, Jody, I know the sound of the migration of the frogs from the forest to the water sources.....deafening when they actually get there. I gotta see your place one day. Beautiful day in this great life of ours. Cindi
Snowed here too, no build up to speak of but gonna be flippen cold, 20's tonight! brrrr! J
It has been snowing since 6:00 this morning, about an inch at least on the ground, and the flakes are small, which means it is cold, eeks......
Poor froggers are freezing their little leg's off! Beautiful today though, snow on the ground & all tree branches sun shining though all sparkly..27 a little while ago. Will see if there is any singing going on tonight! The ditches are up top in the sun though so maybe will thaw enough today?? :? J
Whahhhhh, I wanna hear the frogs. It was crystal clear outside today, but so dam cold, I didn't even head outside. When I let the birds out this AM, there was about 2 inches of ice on their water bath containers outside, I broke it up, the ducks had a field day. THEN....tonight I went to put them in and the broken ice had frozen throughout the day, that's how cold it was today in the shade, frickin' out of season temps for sure!!! Kind of glad the frogs haven't surfaced yet. Jody, the frogs probably went back under the mud and muck where it is warmer, smiling. This will be the first place that I proclaim the sound of the peepers!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!! Beautiful day in this great life. Cindi

Cindi, I've heard those peeping frogs bull froggin' at night, bull frogs sound like this http://video.aol.com/video-detail/animal-sounds-bullfrogs-croaking-exclusive-ringtone/3505746436
...JP
JP, bullfrogs, aren't they a hoot and a hollar. I don't have bullfrogs in my immediate area, no bogs right here. I have heard the bullfrogs over at my Sister's house and other places that we have lived. They are loud. They kind of remind me of the cow mooin'. Bawooooo. Mawooooo. Frogs of all descriptions are neat. I recall Brendhan talking about the buffo frog (I think), that was the one that hung around the bee hives, trying to eat bees, now those aren't the ones that you want (or was it Mick in Australia? someone was talkin' about them). Beautiful day in this most wonderful life we all live, love and share. Cindi
We may hear them tomorrow, usually it takes three warm days to wake them up. I hope so, I love to hear them!
Frogs are singing their little heads off all up & down the road in the ditches! Heard my 1st hummer yesterday & saw him today. The males come first & stake out their "turf". Cindi, they should be up your way very soon! YAYS!! Next are the swallows @ the end of April! :yippiechick: J
Oh, so late this year, still haven't heard the peepers yet. Have a wonderful day, Cindi
Beauty!!! The frogs began their earthly calls, the first I have heard this year was last night. Spring has indeed arrived. Beautiful day in this most wonderful life. Cindi
YAYS Cindi ! One finally found it's way to my pond last night, an older frog probably as it's voice is very low. The sounds of spring life makes my heart happy! J

Same here Cindi I just sat and listend to them for about an hour :)
Interesting thing about frogs. They don't have a very responsive nervous system. Put one on an ice cube and it will sit there until it freezes, but on on a terrarium heater and it will set there until it's mummified. That's croaking.
