Title: WHHOOOOTTT!!! Scout Bees!!!
Post by: ccwonka on March 17, 2009, 08:10:45 PM
So . . . . I am actualy just assuming these are scout bees.  Just went for a casual walk by my bait hives today, and watched two small bees (definitely not from my hives) go in and out of one of my three bait hives, two or three times each ( I guess I'm assuming it was just two, they could 'a been foolin' on me!).

Is there anything I should do other than leave them alone for a while and see if anyone moves in?  And if someone moves in should I close the hive up for a couple days, or just let nature take it's course?

Thanks guys!!! (& gals!!!)

Bees will check out anything like that because it's interesting.  It smells interesting.  It has room.  The bees tend to remember where it was and WHEN they swarm (IF they swarm) they will likely consider it among their choices.  But that doesn't necessarily mean they are about to swarm.  They COULD be.  But they might not be.
