I noticed a bee pulling a larve/brood out of the hive today. When it finally got it out to the porch it grabbed it and flew away with it. I can't say I've ever seen this before. It his a hygienic behavior? Could it bee that they sensed varroa in the cell and pulled it?
That is hygenic behavior, but there are different types to look for. This one could just be a house bee removing chilled brood, or diseased brood. This is not unusual but is exhibited by most hives in varying degrees. It also could be that it is removing larvae that was infected with a mite or mites. I would think you need to test for each behavior seperately to know for sure which this bee is exhibiting. No matter what type of hygiene it is , it is a good thing to have in hive!
