Title: Hello from Central Alabama
Post by: NewSouth on April 10, 2009, 01:06:48 AM
Hello! I am in Shelby County Alabama. I'm on my second year with one hive. It is now two deep brood boxes full of bees!
I just set my first honey super on last week. We had a freeze a few days ago and so I think it set things back a week. Everything looks good from here! They have brought in pollen for weeks now. I think they are getting it from Holley and Cedar.

I have read this forum for over a year. It has most definitely saved me time and kept me from making mistakes. Great bunch of people and a lot of wisdom!

Thanks all,

Rick

Thanks all.  :)

I jumped into this hobby to help prevent deformed watermelons. My Mellon's were looking like large green straight neck squash. I really like honey and so I thought I might benefit there too.

You know this all would be much cheaper to buy the watermelon and honey from the local stand.

Those bees are amazing to watch. It is a thrill to pull a full frame of bees out of the hive for inspection. I confess that I might mess with my bees too much. Maybe more hives/bees would cure that.

They had not touched the honey super this last week. No drawn out frames....not one. I decided to give them a little syrup to kick start the drawing of comb at least. See what I mean? I think I mess too much. I just read Michael Bush's philosophy on bees and work. I think he is on to something.

It is nice to see fellow Alabamians here. What are you seeing the bees go after? I have some clover now.

Regards,

Rick
