Hi everyone!
Just found your place. My husband and I have been living here in Rincon for almost 9 years. Looking to learn more about bees and enjoy the company of others interested in bees. We got our first ones in May of 2006 after a really rough trip through the US Mail. We had planned for 2 hives, but finally ended up combining the girls into one. They did well after awhile and we got our first little bit of honey last August- my photo- then they left us in September- I cried!
We're getting ready to start again. Trying to decide if we want to order bees again or try attracting a wild swarm. The trip through the mail seems tough- the two times we ordered, it took almost a week for them to arrive and they were pretty starved- so sad. We have a lot of AHB down here, but we're feeling a bit more comfortable around bees now. We haven't found a lot of information about beekeeping in the tropics- no cold winter problems here! I just found out they do have a course at the university in Mayaguez. May get brave and see if I can audit the class.

You've got a great place in Puerto Rico for Bees. Keep trying to get good Bees. You'll be glad you did.

RinconBeeGal, welcome to our forum, so nice you found us. Where did your bees go in September? Did they just disappear? I would like to know.

THis will be a place where you can learn, lean on us for advice, a place to tell your stories, tales and experiences -- and also make some new friends. We love to listen and love new members.
