At the risk of losing some cool points I'll share this little escapade - what has been said of large hives becoming aggressive seems right on the money, or else my new queen is a real witch.
Walking out on the patio today, probably 40 feet from the hives, a bee came out of nowhere and stung me squarely on the nose while another chased me into the screened lanai (through door 1) and then into the dining room (door 2). I ran into a bathroom, shutting door 3, finally away from this menacing beast  My wife "rescued" me by opening a window to shoo her out, at which time she began head butting the window. My goodness I ran away like a little girl! I thought I was a tough, semi-seasoned beekeeper! And the nose is throbbing...can't wait to see what THAT looks like tomorrow!
This could now be offspring of the new queen that took over a month ago after superceding my Purvis Bros queen from last year. She's laying like a fiend and I hesitate to requeen, but I won't be stung on the face and run into my own house. That hive is getting split in a couple weeks which I hope will calm them down by itself. I may just requeen it too.
Tracy
You sure you weren't dealing with yellow jackets ?
They look a lot like honey bees especially if your on the run !
Just wondering ?

Nope, no yellow jackets. I heard bee wings which abruptly stopped just as my nose got lit up with a stinger in it.
Thank,s Tracy, I needed that. Still grinning as I set here and scratch one on the top of my head. At least I was on my tractor :-D.
I just requeened an aggressive hive. I have really learned to hate dealing with a hot hive. Its just no fun. Of course finding the established queen was a bear too, found her on the last frame running to get to the other side of the frame. Her wickedness is now swarm trap bait.

All that massive egg-laying, and running off the comb... those are AFB traits. Combined with the aggression, I'd say those queens picked up some African genes somewhere!
The cut out I did the other day in Myrtle Grove, Louisiana is very suspect. I have them at my house in a nuc, waiting to see if they'll make a new queen.
I have been headbutted every day since I brought them home and today took one in the ear.
The nerve of these bees, stinging me right outside my front door!
You have my sympathy.

So what are you going to do with them JP?
Oh, and by the way Tlynn... a bee chasing you through the house :?.. a bee?? I mean, a single bee??? and a girl at that!.. wow

Yes, so true...my manhood has been compromised forever! :-X
Mick, I'm pretty sure its the Myrtle Grove colony that's up to no good. They were very testy when I did the removal but I am giving them the chance to make a queen as I wasn't able to get their queen.
So, their days are numbered. One way or another they are being moved, requeened or both but time will tell.

I wasn't going to say anything about his previous dash !
My guess he's really practicing to be a tract star !!
Bee-Bop
Previous dash? I'm drawing a blank on that one...
better watch out seems like the bees are practicing tactical urban warfare. they might be planning an all out offensive to take over your home. :-D (hint this would be the manly way of putting running though the house from a honey bee)
