Title: My New Hives
Post by: jak61 on April 12, 2009, 06:00:28 PM
Here's my two new hives that I got going yesterday after picking up my packages from Walter T Kelley Co. Everything went pretty smooth getting the bees into the hives. Read alot of info on here and watching several videos helped too. Any advice to this greenhorn will be greatly appreciated.

Don't over manage. That was one of my problems when I first started.

Congratulations on getting started!

A few simple things. One, before you put the cover back on, make sure all the frames are touching (respect proper bee space) and the room between the box and frames 1 and 10 are the same, so you don't get a ton of burr comb.

Make sure they are well fed and add the next box when 7 or 8 frames are drawn out.

Have lots of fun with your new bees, I know you will.

Congrats!  Now all of the fun begins!

You probably find out, as I did, that each hive is different and has a personality of its own!
