Title: Bad weather and my bee's are in!?
Post by: jeremy_c on April 19, 2009, 10:57:56 PM
I am a new bee keeper and my bee's actually came in today to my local bee store but I was away all day. The problem is Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are all suppose to be bad weather. For instance, tomorrow 15-20mph and 100% rain. Tuesday is the same. Wednesday is a bit better but my wife and kids will be away and I was really hoping they would be there when I put the bee's in, they are all excited about it.

What can/should I do?

Thanks for any help,

Jeremy

I'm going to be picking them up at 2pm today. Any advice? I was thinking of constructing a temporary tarp structure (10min job w/existing supports/tarp laying around) to protect from the rain and wind and installing this evening.

Thoughts?

Any chance of installing them in a garage and then moving them (carefully) to the outside location?  Otherwise, go with the tarp and rain coats.  It's great if the kids can see the install but if they don't they will have plenty of time to experience bee keeping all summer!  If the kids have not had any exposure to having a lot of bees around them, sometimes the install can freak them out.  It took me a few years to be totally (ok, almost totally) comfortable around the bees, but kids seem to be more at ease faster than adults!

Let us know how you do.
