Title: well bad news for me
Post by: vermmy35 on April 26, 2009, 02:59:59 PM
looks like I won't be getting my bees until Friday. :'(  It seems that the vendor that I am buying them from had a set back and now I have to wait until the 1st of May.  Oh well, its the suspense that is killing me let you all know when they arrive.

gives you another week to do some more reading and playing with your equipment before the girls arrive.  I hate when they get delayed.

Where will your bees be coming from? The suppliers here in GA are having a good year.

They are coming from Wash. it seems that the vendor's hive were sprayed and killed all of the bees so he is going to another vendor to fill the orders.

You must be getting your bees from the same folks I am, Cedar Glen Bees in Stanwood, Wa.
For me the set back is not to bad as it does give my other hives a chance to develop a little more and maybe allow me to insert a brood comb into the packages when I get them.

But for you:  They would have to mail them after they get the bees.  Cedar Glen drives down to Northern CA to get the bees and bring them back for pickup by local beekeepers.  The bees are in the packages about 2-3 days at this point depending on weather conditions is the Siskiyou Mountains in southern Oregon.  They then have to mail the to you, after the bees have already been in transit, which means another 2-3 days in the package with the same pint syrup can.  A 3lb box of bees surviving on a pint of syrup for a weekor more during transit becombes problematic and I don't want to see you get stung.

If I were you I'd recontact them and insist they replace the feeder cans with new full ones before mailing.

This is a mom and pop operation and he's a retired engineer (if I remember correctly) and they lack retail experience and it shows in their operation.  They frequently over-reach their capabilities trying to do too much or not understanding their limitations. Their intentions, however, are the best, it just gets outstripped by too many variables they haven't been in business long enough to be aware of.

If you run into problems PM me and I'll see what I can do for you.

My packages have been delayed a week as well.:'(  Seems the supplier has had some problems with bad weather, mainly tornadoes and such.  On the bright side, it gives me a little more time to re-adjust my hives.

I feel the same mine are coming from GA. and were initially sopposed to be sent last week and their backed up a week or 2. I allready missed the big bloom of early spring but, I'm sure it will all work out in the end. Brad
