I have 2 gal. of 1:1 syrup on my hands that I will not need until after the nectar flow ends. How long can you store the syrup if you refrigerate it.
Cundald
It will last quite awhile if refregerated.
Even longer if frozen!
Even when I'm using the syrup. I add a small amount of vinegar to it. This will help to keep it.
Maybe I need to start using vinegar... didn't know about that. Several days after making syurp in my leftover bucket, I start to see black stuff in it.
Do you need to reheat the syrup before you give it to them?
I have heard that they won't take syrup if its cold but I have always wondered about that since it doesn't stay warm for long once you put it out there.
I haven't made enough to have to store it, just small batches but its good info to have for the future.
I think it kind of depends upon your outside temps. If you're having 70 degree temps you probably don't have to warm the syrup. If you have 40-50 temps, perhad a good idea to warm it a bit. If I have stored syrup in my fridge ahead of time, I will always warm it up a bit before I place it on the hive.
