Title: New Beek Captures Swarm
Post by: sparks on May 01, 2009, 08:40:44 PM
I just installed my first 2 packages and a nuc last week and today I get a frantic call from a lady about 6 miles away that a swarm of bees was hanging in a tree just outside her front door.  I get called because I put my name on the swarm list at the local club the other night thinking I could help someone with a swarm but there was no one else to go.   It was up about nine feet and on a large limb so there was no shake or cut going to happen.  I sprayed them down good with syrup and gave them the brush off.  I got about 95 percent of them and only hope that I got the queen.  I think they were close to five pounds.  It was a large swarm.  It was a real adrenalin rush and I was a hero to the home owner.   They filled up a 5 frame medium nuc.  I guess I have to wait till their honey high wears off to see what their disposition is going to be.  Wow what a trip.

congratulations Chuck.  Nice size swarm.  I'm looking for one myself.  It is a rush indeed.

There's no feeling like it! I did my 1st swarm off a tree limb today and the bee's seemed to want a place to go.
