Title: Queen marking
Post by: TimLa on May 09, 2009, 08:30:07 PM
Today was terrific!

They're building out like crazy, lots of activity.  I added a medium to the existing one, and as I'm pulling frames and looking at them:

THERE'S THE QUEEN!  So the odd bit:  Her mark was white, which from what I've read, means she's three years old.  Do the people who raise queens follow the color code?  Should I be concerned?  I may call the place I bought the package from...

Saw eggs.  Saw larvae.  Lot's of drone capped, maybe 30% of the brood.

On foundationless, is there a way to push the bees to draw straight comb?  I pulled two frames of (fairly straight) brood from the lower medium, put them in the upper, hoping that will help them draw the upper straight....

Not all, in fact a lot don't follow the color standard.  I wouldn't be concerned, but go ahead an call if your curious.
