Title: Sharing Frames
Post by: shaux on May 13, 2009, 12:36:10 PM
The Bix and I have got another package coming in next week.  Call this #2.  My plan was to steal a frame of capped brood from the hive (#1) that we just started a couple weeks ago.  This frame has the scent of the queen from the original hive (#1) on it....now when it's placed in with the new package (#2) does this make it have the same scent as the hive sitting 3 feet from it? And what stops #1 from going into #2 and wrecking havoc?

Just shake of the bees and you'll be fine.

The scent you're talking about is the pheromone of the queen that is shared with the workers, removing the workers removes the pheromone.

Ok from what I understood the pheromones were on the workers and the wax.  Thanks for clearing that up
