Title: cut out 5-22-09 beeler
Post by: G3farms on May 22, 2009, 06:05:14 PM
Well finally got to go and do the cut out, it was in an old use to be church building. The property owners furnished scaffolding and Jay even suited up and helped while Tim was the ground man. They said the hive was 15 to 20 years old, but I think bees had come and gone a couple of times. They were very nice and even fed me pizza for lunch.

old comb from a previous hive in the same wall.

The finished cut out with the hive sitting in front of the wall.

These were very gentle bees and the bee vac worked great.
I had cut out the biggest part of the comb and all of the brood, took a break and when I went back and cut the next piece of comb out there was the queen, I could not believe it.

There was not many bees in this hive for the size of it, I think they had swarmed not long ago.

All is well and will go and pick them up tomorrow evening or morning.
A big thanks to Jay and Tim, the property owners.

Great job! Looks like you had everything with you to do the job right, especially a bucket of water to wipe honey off tools.

Good job, G3. Neat, clean, and orderly. Be proud of yourself.

Thanks robo, I made a shim for it last night but could not find any hardware cloth locally. Oh well there were not that many bees in this cut out, maybe two pounds. I still can not get over how gentle they were.
