Title: moving brood frames to another hive
Post by: G3farms on May 24, 2009, 09:06:57 PM
Can I move a frame or two of brood to another hive?

The swarm that I put up on 4/29 has already filled 10 frames of brood and some honey around the edges.
The swarm I put up on 5/22 is a little lite on bees, but I think there is enought to cover two frames of brood and the brood comb that I cut out.

Just shake the bees off of the donor frames and insert in the new swarm box?????

I also noticed several SHB in the new cut-out hive. I guess it is possible to bring in the SHB to my other hives??

Yep, that's it.

SHB will fly 5 miles to get to another hive. Just be sure your hives are in the sun as many hours as possible. SHB hate sun, but love shade.

Thanks iddee, I already did it a little while ago, just wanting to make sure I was on the right track.
