Title: Help my bees are sick
Post by: Highlandsfreedom on May 26, 2009, 03:11:44 PM
I went to capture a swarm from a guys bush and it turned out to be 2 small softball size swarms they both had queens and were spawns from the same tree.  The owner of the house sayed he tryed to scare the bees away with fire crackers and it didn't work so he called me.  I combined the 2 swarms into one taking away one of the queens.  I put them into a nuc and now they are not doing anything just sitting in a ball I know they have a queen but I don't know if the guy sprayed the bees with anything?  could I get a few ideas on what we could do? Sorry about the grammer I'm using my phone.

feed them and wait. if they were sprayed, there is not much you can do.

apian PTSD? - a firecracker would be about equal to thirty grenades to us...
I hope he didn't spray them. But I imagine the concussions from the firecrackers may have messed up (temporarily?) their sensory organs.
I also hope they get better for you.

Well they passed.......... I woke up this morning and ALL the bees were at attention but dead.  They were on the frames some were still in mid lick from the sugar water we were feeding them.  I'm gonna bet the guy that had the swarm experimented with the girls because they were not OK from the get go.  Well you win some and loose some right?  At least the other 6 swarms I have gotten this season are doing great.
