Title: fermented honey from SHB
Post by: heaflaw on May 29, 2009, 10:12:23 PM
Small Hive Beetles made a mess of several frames in a nuc.  I froze the frames.  Part of the honey is still capped and seems good but much is fermented.  Can I put it back in the hive for the bees to clean up?  There's lot's of pollen also and the comb seems okay.

I have some I froze from last year. Placed it in the yard away from hives for the bees to clean up.

They cleaned it up fairly good, I just don't like the look of the comb for re-use.

And comb does not have to bee on a hive to attract shb. I knew they would come to combs in a honey house or eggs hatch if already there in the comb. But I was surprised to find they will come to pre-frozen comb (frozen to kill beetles and eggs)  :'(. They will!!!
