Title: PART 2 - WHAT 5 QUESTIONS WOULD YOU LIKE ASKED?
Post by: beemaster on May 31, 2009, 02:04:45 PM
I think we all learned the general views and questions from NON-BEEKEEPERS who find out that we keep bees are VERY similar when they ask about our hobby.

What I'm wondering NOW is very different. As a beekeeper, what 5 questions WOULD you like non-beekeepers to ask? This may be surprising since our prospective differs from theirs greatly, but I still think that some questions may over lap.

Now... In this quiz here, I want you to think a bit harder - the object is to LEAVE THE PERSON "BETTER EDUCATED and INFORMED" then before your choice questions are asked of you. Image that when they leave, the know more about beekeeping then they ever would know otherwise, but your questions should reflect someone with little to  no knowledge on beekeeping.

Give this a try, just image SMART QUESTIONS from a uninformed mind that will glean them greater understanding when the five questions are asked and answered. Good luck.

P.S. I think when we are done, we'll really have a nice short and to the point collection of info to respond to when asked the normal questions: for example "Do you get stung" could easily lead to "Yes, but honeybees DIE after they sting us because our skin is rubbery and their barbed stinger gets stuck, although when sting other insects which are exoskeleton they can sting many many times and not die!" might be worded better, but you see that educating people often can evoke questions that GREATLY differ than the normal 5 we all get!

Ok, let me get this right, you want five intelligent questions about bees from the non beekeeping community? :lau:

1) Would you mind if I signed the check and left it blank, you can fill out the amount when you get home, ok? :-D

2) Its really warm out, would you mind taking little breaks every fifteen minutes inside my air conditioned house?

3) I insist that you stay over for dinner, what would you like, steak or lobster, or both? :-D

4) Would you mind if I washed and waxed your truck while you removed the bees in my wall? :-D

5) (If I were single, of course) Please take my signed blank check and my daughter as payment for doing such a great job, ok?

Sorry John, I couldn't think of any non smartellick, intelligent questions at the moment, but thanks for asking anyway! :-D ;)

1:What does the dance mean?
2: why don't they sting more? (non bee keepers- it is a decent question for their education)
3: do they communicate in other ways?
4: do they recognize the beekeeper?
5: HOW do they make honey?
those may not be in order, but even after liking bees since childhood and finally taking them up; I'd say I'm still fascinated by the answers and possibilities as the case applies to if some of them have ever been answered. (the forum has touched on #4 and it seems to be a yes but unclear how)

1.  My child/Spouse/Me/ is/are allergic to bees, wasps and hornets, why do they appear to ignore us
until one of us notices them and then seem to zero in on us?

2.  Why do they seem to get agitated and fly all around the front of your hives for awhile during mid-
afternoon and then they disappear like nothing happened?

3.  I swell up when I get stung; that means I'm allergic right?

4.  It feels like they're stinging me but I don't see any stingers.  Are honeybees able to sting me more
than once and why do they hit my face and head?

5.  Why do we need honeybees?  All they do is sting and make a little bit of honey, which I don't like.
