Title: Syrup feeding???
Post by: RangerBrad on June 10, 2009, 08:55:59 AM
Howdy folk's, I have 2 week and 1/2 old installed packages and Their on their 2nd gals of syrup. I'm wondering if I should keep syrup available for them full time or let them go dry a day or two between fill ups?? I heard it both ways and does it even make a difference this time of year?? All advice is appreciated. Thank's, Brad

Keep feeding.  Alot of feed/nector is needed to make wax.  The faster they make wax the faster the hive will build up.

Thank's for the come back. They are on HSC so the only wax required until next years supers is wax for capping. Brad

How many frames of bees do they have?  I would probably still feed but if you are able to control the amount, I might cut it back some.

I use inverted jars with pin holes and use different lids with different quantity of holes to adjust how much feed I give them.

Bees covering appx. 4-5 frames. I am using the feeder pails on top of the inner cover. Thank's, Brad

Feeding will still help with acceptance of the honey super cell as they will have no where to store it so they will start using the HSC.  After they start using it then the queen is willing to lay in it...

I agree- keep feeding them unless you have a really strong nectar flow and good flying weather.
