Title: Tried reccomendation!!
Post by: RangerBrad on June 10, 2009, 09:15:24 AM
I have a pool and was very worried about bees bothering the wife and kids but was told about using boardman feeders as waters and it has worked wonderfully. I have had no complaints from the family members and have only had a few(single digits) end up in the pool over the last week and 1/2 and they are really taking allot of water from the feeders. Anyway thought yal might want to know this idea has worked really well for me. Thank's, Brad

Were you having a problem before you added the boardman feeders? i.e. did the boardman feeders fix the problem or maybe if they were not there you wouldn't have a problem anyway? I'm just wondering if I start to get any complaints if it will fix the problem.

I put the boardman feeders on with water in them when I installed the packages. I felt that it was better to avoid a problem than to try and fix an existing problem. Brad

Jeremy

If the bees have already oriented to a water source you may not like, then you will have to lure them away.

I have read here on the forum about beeks putting honey in the water or lemongrass oil around the water source. Just some info, if you ever need it. I don't believe you can just place a boardman feeder in the hive and expect them to switch water sources.

My limited experience show me that they go were they want to, I have a six foot pond for them and two bird feeder bowls with rocks in therm they use them all the time, but I also have got some flowers in pots, I water them and the bees use them all day. Makes a pain when I transplant them into the ground. Always worried about smooshing a bee. Point is they go were ever they feel like it with or without water being supplied.
