Title: Simple equipment failure
Post by: danno on June 10, 2009, 03:57:16 PM
Last night I needed to fill so 1#ers.  I have 3 full 6 gal pails with the plastic honey gates on them in my basement  As I finished filling the first bottle I shut that gate and tightened the PLASTIC thumb screw.  Well it broke.  I had 60#s of honey in the bucket with a broken valve.  By squeezing the valve shut I could stop the flow.  Luckly my wife was home and heard me yelling.  She got a new clean bucket from the honey house so I could let go and drain.  I went to the hardware store and bought steal thumb screws to replace all my plastic ones.  Looking in my cataloges I see they are available for the gates for .65ea   Dont let this happen to you.

Good job at avoiding a near disaster. The other day I didn't close the gate all the way and had about a lb and a half of honey spill out onto the kitchen floor which my dogs lapped up, one in fact too much! He tossed his cookies twice!

Good advice! I will change mine now, before it breaks.  ;)
