Title: Agressive bee
Post by: patook on June 12, 2009, 03:31:52 PM
The last few times I have been to the bee yard I have had, within a minute or two of arriving, a single bee angry off at me, buzzing the veil.  The bee will stay with my until I leave the beeyard. I don't think it is the same bee, but usually just one. She is not a problem, just an distraction.

Perhaps it is due to smoking less, but is this normal?

Perhaps it is because I have been eating all those bananas

Yea, bananas.

When I get one like that I give her a puff of smoke, she usually leaves real quick.

How often do you visit your bees with smoke and veil? What time of day, typically?

There are times when I just go out to sit in my yard and watch the girls that this happens, I just sit there and let her do her thing and most of the time she get bored and leaves. It is fun to watch how close she will fly to you face, man they can get close. :-D

I usually get one or two of them buzzing me if I walk by the hives for a day or so after I do my inspections. Some give up quickly as I am just walking by but others will follow me for up to 20 feet or so.
After a couple of days they don't bother me anymore.
