Title: new queen questions
Post by: wvbee on June 19, 2009, 09:56:36 AM
My hive swarmed about a month ago, I did not catch it.  So after it swarmed, I saw queen cells in hive.  Now, new queen has emerged about a week ago, and I question her fertility.  She is laying a very good, full brood pattern.  But it all seems to be drone brood.  Is this something I need to worry about.  There are not multiple eggs in cells, all eggs are in bottom center of cell.  Is it possible she thought the hive needed a bunch of drones, and she will start laying worker brood?  I would like to give it a little time, but not too long.  I have a guy I can get a new queen from by early next week if I need one.
Thanks for your answers/opinons.

I would give it a week or so for her to get everything in order so to speak.

Thanks for your input.  I am still a novice at this, into my third year.  One thing I have tried to learn is not to be in too big of a hurry.  But it seems like with beekeeping, you can be too late pretty easy also.
