Title: Honey Flow in Denver
Post by: Bee Dad on June 21, 2009, 02:40:29 PM
This is my first post.  Hope I'm getting this right.

Are any of you in Denver experiencing a honey flow yet?

I have 3 hives, only one of which is now producing honey.  I'm a bit concerned about the other two.

I think the way the weather has been lately the bees are moving a little slower than normal.  Mine on the southeast side are moving slower than what I expected.  Started both from packages and have been dealing with bad weather since day one.  On the other hand I captured a swarm and set the hive up in Colorado Springs.  They are doing the best compared to the one and a half month old packages.

I live in wheatridge and have hived 3 swarms in my backyard and have other cutout bees and and about 6 more swarms around town and they are up to 2 boxes and one of my hives is on her first med.!!!  I agree about the weather after all this rain ends in a few days I bet we have a massive flow but that is just a guess.  Where in Denver are you could I come look at your bees you could see mine too I just love to see other peoples setups.   And if your intrested in cutouts I have 2 of them in the next day or so ............

I'm in Elizabeth (southeast Denver). My hives are at elev. 6450' (2 pkgs. from TX and 1 re homed cutout from Parker) and are Warre style TBH.
All three colonies must have read the same books that I have because they know just what they should be doing and are doing it.
For the last two to three weeks it seems like 80% of the bees returning have been heavily laden with pollen. For the last few days only a small percentage are carrying pollen and the activity at the hive entrance has been increasing daily. I'm thinking they are concentrating on nectar but since this is my first year I don't know for sure.
