Title: Sneaky bees and sticky board over screened - resolved
Post by: beegrlAK on July 12, 2009, 01:13:53 AM
Nope!  The bees were going in under the hive to clean up some drip honey!

But!  my 2nd deep is positively full of honey, my first medium is full and they are filling a second medium with fireweed honey.  Am I happy!  This is my first year and I am positively thrilled.

My other hive is just limping along but I learned so much in how I managed each of these hives.  Hive one is Carniolans in a 10 frame box, with no insulation in the beginning, my hive 2 is italians in an 8 frame with insulation until the end of May.  Hive 2 outperformed hive 1 2:1.  It really, really matters all the stuff I've learned from everyone here and at the Alaska Beekeepers Assn.

could you describe your setup a little more?  I'm not sure what arrangement you have that would provide a rear entrance just by removing the board under the screened bottom board.

I'm beginning to think the screen came loose and the board has slipped above so that the bees can come in.  When I pull my honey in a few weeks I can look then.  It's a Brushy Bee board.
