Greetings,
I had a couple of swarms I caught 2 weeks ago and they've drawn out frames wonderfully. The only problem is that the comb is full of honey and the queens don't have anywhere to lay. I don't have any frames of open comb to give them. I saw today that one of the hives had the queen outside with a bunch of bees with her. I caught her and put her back in the hive, but I think she wants to start laying or the bees are upset that she isn't laying? I thought about taking the frames of honey out and letting the bee's in the beeyard rob the frames so I'd have open frames, but then I'm scared of all the other hives getting honeybound. What should I do?
Thanks,
John
Add boxes or take a few frames and crush and strain.
I pulled some frames out of the brood nest and put in some empty ones and as Iddee said you could add a box as well.
If you don't have any extra frames then cut the comb out for crush and strain and put them back in you don't need to have built comb for them they will build more.
I added another box, but on the frames that are drawn out to the size of a 1/2 dollar are full of honey. I will wait and be patient, I just hope the queen doesn't leave me :'(
