The boys and I are diving into queen rearing and curious if anyone makes their own queen cups and if you could post a couple photos of your dowel/dipping process?
I've seen some suggest 1/4" dowel and others 5/16"... some tapered, some don't mention. Any advice there?
Thx!
Aww.. man! You would ask that question two days after I watched a video (French site; or was it German?) of doing just that! Dang... and now I can't find the link, of course. I don't remember them mentioning dowel sizes, anyway.
But, I found this at Michael Bush's site:
"When completed, the cells should be about five-sixteenths of an inch across the mouth and one-half inch deep inside measurements." <-- http://bushfarms.com/beesqueenrearingsimplified.htm#DippingCells (http://bushfarms.com/beesqueenrearingsimplified.htm#DippingCells)
I saw no mention of tapering the dipping stick.
Check this out and see if it is what you want.

At 1ยข each from Kelley, it is not worth my time and effort to make them.
