Title: Bee
Post by: timdalyiii on July 26, 2009, 08:01:47 PM
I extracted about 1/4 mile from my hive.  I left an empty box in my back yard and found a couple of bees collecting propolis (I think).

I thought it was cool so I figured I'd share.

BTW - I started my first hive this time last year.  I did my first extraction a couple of weekends ago.  I got about 5 gallons.  Thank you everyone for contributing to this site and thank you to a few local beeks.

You're first honey crop, nice! I bet it's the best tasting honey you ever did try!

Yes, the bees will grab propolis off old boxes laying around, they do here in my yard. I've always got a few boxes around with old combs in them and bees are always checking them out. Now they are getting propolis.  Earlier in the year I had 4 swarms fly in and take up residence. What a kick, Free bees without even lifting a finger of work!
