Title: Printing Labels
Post by: timdalyiii on August 01, 2009, 09:14:18 AM
I saw label questions in several sections of this forum, so my apologies if this should have been under Tech Help or Bee Equipment.

I purchased labels from Brushy Mountain.  They have a small section on the label to print custom info.  They provide a template to use and it works great.  I'm using an ink jet printer.  No matter how long I let the ink 'dry' it still smears very easily.

Has anyone experienced something like this?  Do you use a special type of ink or treat the label with something after printing?

Thanks for your help.

I do lots of printing from my home computer and occasionally I've run into different photo papers which wouldn't dry.  I checked the Brushy Mountain page for the labels.  I thought maybe they offered laser and inkjet labels, but it mentions both types of printing for the labels, so assuming that the paper the labels are printed on is OK, what about your ink?  Are you buying the printer manufacturers ink or off brand or refilling cartridges?  Sometimes cheap is just that, cheap as in not working so very well. . .

If you're not using OEM ink, first I would try that and if that doesn't work I'd talk to Brushy Mountain maybe they've got a tip or maybe they would refund your money.

Another thought, sometimes turning the print quality down on the printer settings will lay down less ink.

Laser printer is the way to go.  I don't have one and made my labels then went to Office Depot and they printed them for me.  Very easy to work with.  Until I acquire a laser printer, this is what I will do.  I did have to cut out the labels though.  The Brushy Mountain labels look great, and a laser printer I'm pretty sure would cure your smear.

Yup.  Laser printing was the way to go.  Thanks for the advise.

I have the Brushy Mountain labels and they work fine. I am using an HP inkjet printer and OEM HP printer ink.
Do not stack them right away, spread them out on a table and allow a couple hours to dry completely.
If you handle them with wet hands the ink will smear slightly. I would not recommend them for retail use but for friends and family they are great.
