I have a cut out colony resting in my carport and when ever I turn on the flood light on about 3-4 bees hit it like moths. Why do they do that? They go after it like mad. Its kinda funny to watch.
wait until you do a cutout in a dark space. you either do it by feel, or you try to collect bees off your light source forever. :-)
Cover the light with red tinsel. They will then ignore it. For cutouts, too, Kathy.

i read that. maybe in one of your posts. i read it after i did that attic cutout. that's the first one i have done where i had no choice but to use artificial light. it wasn't so bad. i just turned off the light and brushed the bees off from time to time, but it was kind of a PIA.
bees fear abduction and relocation by aliens from a distant genetic memory of being taken from their planet of origin.
you didn't think they were from HERE didya?

Highland, bees don't see like we do, they see other color spectrums that are invisible to our eyes. A white light drives them crazy and its magnetic, they just have to go to it.
Red lights work, don't attract nearly the amount of bees other colors attract.

Well its off to get a military issued red spectrum flashlight. Thanks all.
J.P. That's a nice snapper I just got back from freeport where I got to do ALOT of fishing but it was a charter party boat and they wouldn't tie up to a rig. That's where I caught all the fish like you are holding. Oh well it was still a BLAST. Again thanks for all the good advice everybody.
