Title: Why do they fan wings on landing board ?

I have about 15 bees just sitting on the landind board fanning their wings. Why do they fan wings on landing board ?

They don't have a airconditioner so they are using what they have to ciculate air to regulate hive temps.

I have even read that the bees on the front porch fan their wings and lift their abdomen to send off a scent to help the field bees to return to the hive. Kind of like a sonar or something like that.
I think that is the coolest thing. 8-)

No, they aren't in the hive, but they are moving air into it, which helps cool it and also helps to evaperate the water from the nectar and syrup.
