has anybody ever used a wick feeding system?
You always see threads about different ways to feed bees. One way drowns bees, another way gets bees robing, another does not hold enough another............
Do you think it would be possible to use a wick system? By wick I mean a a system where a sponge or something would draw the sugar water to the feeding area by absorption. The first problem I can think of would be the wick filtering out the sugar. Or would it be OK because it is dissolved?
Any thoughts? What type of material do you think would be the best for a sugar water wick? If this is feasible, I have myself and idea!! This could really be cool if it works but I'm sure someone will rain in on my parade soon enough!!
Interesting idea the first thing that comes to mind is using the wick system to make rock candy when I was a kid but if the bees are there to clean it up It may work I guess you wouldnt know until you try it
I use an old bath tub for watering the bees .The upper overflow hole I stopped up with a rag and a plug .The rag acts as a wick ,the bees are all over it absorbing the moister . However you could be right in the wick acting as a filter against the sugar. Let us know how it works out.
I spent hours now trying to research wicking ont the internet. All I can seem to find is irrelevant. I would like to know what matterial to use. You do not want some thing that will rot. You don't want something that will clog.
If it did work, it would solve many problems. It might create more than it solves though.
I may try to figure it out. After much thought though, it seems there is probably a better way to feed without waisting time with a wick. I guess, time will tell.
