I would venture to guess mites.  Sounds like hygenic bees to me.

My guess is that they are drone larva, and its the end of the road for them. not sure about your area but mine is dumping them now. slowly but determinedly. There work is done. Drones are pretty uselelss to the bees come fall. no breeding and  they do like to eat. so out they go. no work no eat. LOL

Are you doing mite treatments?  Sometimes that will trigger the described behaviour.

I have seen mine doing it with the drones too....

Whatever the reason, its a good sign for the most part when they clean house.

NICE Pics JP. Them girls were busy in that floor cut out. How long did you have to set the hive box in that room to get them to regroup ?
