Title: A Little Bit of Robbing?
Post by: David LaFerney on September 16, 2009, 12:25:54 AM
99 percent of the traffic looks completely normal to me, but I've been seeing a few fights that I believe to indicate robbing.  Other than the entrance reducer I don't really know what else - if anything - should be done.

So, what do you think?  A little bit of robbing?

Things looked peaceful to me.  I am sure there are always a few bees trying to get into other hives and it probably goes on all day long.

I don't see any problem with your hive, but if you ever are worried about robbing, you can reduce the entrance down by half of what it is. Even by the width of one bee if you ever see any serous robbing going on.

You don't see a wrestling match start about 10 seconds in and go on for a couple of minutes?

I don't think you have robbing, but when I think there is robbing I put a robber screen on. That will tell the story. Goggle search robber screens and go to Michael Bush's web site for pics.  Would have posted the link but can't on this forum.

It's just some guard bees doing their job.
