Title: Propolis recipe
Post by: Rich V on September 16, 2009, 11:04:49 AM
Does anyone have a recipe for propolis? The one I have is mixing it in 100 proof vodka.
Heating it in a covered bottle at 170 degrees and shaking it every ten minutes until it dissolves. Then strain.

You can make tincture by putting it in the 100 proof (or stronger) and let it sit without heating.  But you need to let it sit for longer.  If you aren't in a hurry, forget about it for a couple weeks.

I've met some eastern europeans who only get the plain propolis.  I need to ask them how they prepare it...

I've tried to just let it sit in the vodka. I let it set for weeks, even went on a vacation for two weeks. All I got was, very dim looking yellow vodka.

Once you make it what do you do with it?
