Title: Honey Pricing
Post by: Two Bees on September 27, 2009, 02:11:51 PM
I went to the local farmer's market yesterday to get an idea as to what to charge for my honey.  I was surprised at what a couple of vendors were charging.

1/2 pound bottle........$8.00
1 pound bottle...........$12.00
Quart Jar..................$14.50
Gallon Jug.................$50.00

I was thinking of charging $8.00 for a pound bottle and $15.00 for a 2 pound bottle.  But now, I'm not sure.  These prices seem high compared to what I have read on Beemaster web.

Thoughts?

I think the native honey supply will be short this year. And naturally an increase in price should follow.
Remember,it is easier to lower your price than raise it. Price it for what the market will bear. Are they selling the honey at that price or is it sitting on the shelf?
Bee culture shows average retail for your area at
1/2 pound:3.17
1 pound: 4.86
2 pound: 7.08
quart: 10.50
Remember these are average, some are higher some are lower.

Average for my area is 4.39 a pound,I sell it for 5.00 in a 1 lb glass jar.we sell all we can get.We need to work on producing more.
