Title: Mites . . . Wow . . .
Post by: c10250 on October 05, 2009, 09:47:08 AM
Early August I had a drop rate of around 10 per day on a sticky board.  This was a BOOMING hive so I wasn't too concerned. I decided to treat after harvesting with MAII.  I couldn't help myself and pulled the sticky board to take a peek after 1 week.  HOLY COW!!!  I had around 1200 dead mites on the board . . . YIKES!  Not sure if this hive would have made it through the winter with this kind of load.

what did you treat with?  I used apiguard and oxalic and monitored only 4 out of 30.  After a week 3 dropped 1000s each.  The boards were red/brown.  The 4th had only about 50.   They must be doing something right

I treated with a Mite-Away II formic acid pad.

10 mites a day is a heavy miteload.  10 seen multiply by 100, those hidden are in the brood.  So glad that you treated, you would surely have lost that hive, no ifs, ands or buts....Have a wonderful and most awesome day, health.  Cindi
