Title: I think i have AFB. How to tell?

Went in to remove some supers for winter and i can smell something different. i checked the capped brood with a stick some were stringy most were not. is it afb or efb?

If the brood is a nasty brown looking mess and strings out like snot with the stick test then it's probably AFB. It smells like rotting animal matter which is exactly what it is! I've never seen EFB so can't help with that diagnosis. Do a search!

It depends on what is legal in your state.  Here we are required to kill the bees, burn bees and the comb and scorch the inside of the hive bodies with a blow torch.
