Title: FIRST BEE SEASON IN NEW YORK
Post by: BMAC on October 27, 2009, 11:59:44 AM
Well been quite busy this summer moving into the new house.  Most stuff is still in boxes laying around waiting for me and the misses to unpack.  We settled into a nice area here.  Very peaceful in the heart of farming by Canojaharie NY.  It didnt leave me much time to tend to the bees, but I was able to tend to them anyway.  This year was just horrible for honey here this year.  I spoke with one beekeeper who claims he only pull 200 lbs of honey from 50 colonies he runs.  Thats horrible.  I had better luck than that, however I left the honey on way too late as I didn't have a honey house setup to extract it.  I ended up having a larger local beek extract my honey for me.  I got all the honey off this past weekend and it should be extracted tomorrow.

All beeks are complaining up here about only getting around 1/2 the expected honey crop this year.  We will see.  Time to feed before it gets too cold now.

So I just got word from the keep that extracted my honey for me this year.  Very dismal.  My bees only averaged 24 lbs per colony.  Good thing I am not depending on beekeeping to live.
