Title: wax moth
Post by: greenismycolor on November 08, 2009, 09:47:18 PM
I lost a hive to wax moth a couple of months ago. Opened my other hives (3) yesterday and just in one hive I found a wax moth larva on the top of a frame, alive, killed it. Lots of bees, 1 deep, 1 shallow. weather is moderate here right now, night about 50 ish days about 70 ish. I didnt see any webs in the upper box, did not go into the lower one, getting dark.  Anyone have suggestions? The hive i lost was gone before i knew i had a problem. I would like to save this one. I do not know how to treat or prevent. I red about bt awazi (spelling is bad) some say it will kills the bees and some say it wont. Anyone with experience with the product or any other sucessful method, would u please respond asap? thanks

It kills the larva. Do a search for "wax Moth". There are lots of threads on BT.

It worked for me on the hives/frames that I treated.

I got mine from here.  Ordered on line. They were great to deal with.

Michael Bush says to crowd the bees in very tightly so they can defend themselves against the wax moths.  Meaning crowding down to 1 super.

I did this and saved my hive even after the wax moths took over some of the frames.
