Title: Bad day
Post by: Pond Creek Farm on November 20, 2009, 09:29:31 PM
Checked the hives.  Russian hive dead.  No honey, no brood, only some pollen.  This was the strongest, and we had no idea they were light until they were gone.  Two full deeps and a medium of drawn comb empty.  I hate it when this happens.  We are feeding heavily the other 3 hives just to be sure and using lots of dry sugar to boot.  Next time, we feed all hives heavy in August.

Sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear of your loss, you seem to be haveing bad luck starting out.

We've had so darn many rainey days this year and the bees just keep eating, we had very little fall blooms this year it seems.

I feed all my hives the same, I figure the good hives have more bees, but they will eat more honey in bad weather.

Oh, did you see the posting a couple down about Springfield bees ?

Better Luck next year.

Brian, so sorry to hear this, it is always difficult when one loses a colony, but keep that chin up, look at it as that learning curve that we all must go around.  Still, have that most awesome day, and with great health wishes for us all.  Cindi

BeeBop:  I just saw that posting and directed him to Honey Heaven which is a store here in town.  This starving thing was the only bad thing that happened this year (although last year was horrible).  This time it wasn't bad luck just not paying attention.  I think I will adopt your habit of feeding them all.  That is a bit of an insurance policy it seems.
